Celebrating The Life Of Martin Luther King Jr.
BUILD staff, youth, neighborhood residents, the Chicago Police Department and several volunteers from Starbucks and Playworks came together on January 20 in celebration of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through service to others. We came together in an effort to reconnect, transform, uplift, and inspire youth, staff, and community.
In honor of Dr. King’s dream, we set up various service projects which included a community peace march, hope kits, a legacy village, food, games, a special youth performance, inspiring art projects, and many other service and interactive stations. We ended our day distributing blessing bags and serving a warm meal for the less fortunate at the Austin Community Family Center. It was truly a special day for us all.
We want to thank ABC7 Chicago for highlighting the nearly 150 young people who worked on different service projects, while focusing on the history of social injustices during our day of service.
