Cubs Charities Grant Supports BUILD Peace Softball League.
The Donna Dudley Peace Project started back in the mid-80s as a softball league to attract gang involved youth to play against each other and form healthier, more accepting relationships with rival gang members.
After a year off due to the pandemic, the BUILD Peace League is back! And this summer it will continue to bring youth from different gangs together to play a friendly game of softball and to encourage peace in the streets. When young people get to know each other outside of their gang, they are less likely to have violent confrontations off the field.
Recognizing the importance of this approach, the Cubs Charities have generously granted funding to cover the BUILD Peace League for the season.
This summer, we are dedicating the season to Coco Calixto who was the longtime coordinator of the Peace League. He made an enormous difference in the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know him, and every game honors his legacy.
