BUILDing Futures: College Visits

At BUILD, we understand the importance of an education. We also want our young people to understand the impact that an education can make in their lives. Our education component, BUILDing Futures, helps our youth see themselves as college bound students firsthand when they attend college tours, not only in Illinois, but around the country.

Our BUILDing Futures team gives our youth opportunities to immerse themselves into collegiate life by taking tours of college campuses along with meeting with school admissions staff so they can better understand the process of enrollment and get a clearer picture of what it takes to walk across a stage as a college graduate.

We go on several college tours during the year and we were excited to give our youth an opportunity to travel to New Orleans for tours at Dillard University, St. Xavier University Louisiana, University of New Orleans and Tulane University!

We also took in the culture of New Orleans by visiting the Marley Gras Jerk Chicken Festival, NOLA Music and Swamp Tours!

Here in Chicago, our BUILDing Girls 2 Women participants recently had the opportunity to visit Harry S Truman College and Chicago Women in Trades

One participant shared, “My favorite part of the trip was learning about construction. I like to work hard and they are hard workers.”

Our kids have also enjoyed visits to Northeastern Illinois University, Bradley University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
